Jan Chi Korean Cuisine & BBQ

A Taste of Korea at Jan Chi Korean Cuisine & BBQ: A Hidden Gem in Austin
Exploring the world, one bite at a time 🍽️

When it comes to authentic Korean food, Jan Chi Korean Cuisine & BBQ is a mom-and-pop gem that should not be missed. Tucked away on Spicewood Springs Road in Austin, this charming little restaurant offers a taste of Korea that will transport your taste buds across the globe. I recently visited with my best friend (photo credit to her for this foodie adventure!) and was blown away by how delicious and authentic everything felt.

Cozy Vibes, Authentic Flavors
Walking into Jan Chi, I immediately felt the warm, welcoming vibe of a family-owned restaurant. The décor was simple yet charming, with traditional Korean elements that made the atmosphere feel cozy. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re being invited into someone’s home for a hearty meal.

The service was friendly, and the smells coming from the kitchen had my mouth watering before we even sat down. I could tell right away that this was going to be an authentic experience, and I wasn’t wrong!

What We Ordered
We decided to dive straight into the classics. My best friend and I ordered the Grilled Pork Belly served with ssamjang and lettuce wraps. The pork was perfectly grilled, tender with just the right amount of char. Paired with the ssamjang, a savory and slightly spicy dipping sauce, it was an absolute flavor bomb. Wrapping the pork in lettuce with garlic and green onions added a fresh, crisp contrast to the richness of the meat. Each bite was a delightful balance of flavors and textures.

Next up was the Dolsot Bulgogi Bibimbob. If you’ve never had bibimbob before, it’s a rice dish topped with seasoned vegetables, marinated bulgogi (thinly sliced beef), and a fried egg, all served in a sizzling hot stone pot. The stone pot keeps the rice crispy at the bottom, creating a satisfying texture that I can’t get enough of. The bulgogi was flavorful and tender, and when mixed with the egg and vegetables, it became this incredible medley of savory goodness.

Pro tip: don’t forget to mix in the gochujang (Korean chili paste) for an extra kick of spice. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
